What is the New York HUT permit?

The New York highway use tax (HUT) is imposed on motor carriers operating certain motor vehicles on New York State public highways.  The tax is based on mileage traveled at a rate determined by the weight of the motor vehicle.  A HUT certificate of registration is required for any truck, tractor, or other self-propelled vehicle with a gross weight in excess of 18,000 pounds.

How long does it take to get the NY HUT?

We will submit your application to the state electronically as soon as we receive your order.  Typically, the state will generate your new account and issue a temporary certificate within 1 business day.  After that, you will receive your NY HUT decal in the mail.

Once I have the NY HUT in place, what do I need to do?

Once you have the NY HUT account issued, you will need to file your HUT quarterly reports in a timely manner to keep your certificate in good standing. The quarterly reports will be mailed to you by the state at the end of each quarter. The quarterly reports are due the last day of the month following the end of the quarter.
